It is established under Sec.3 of UGC Act, 1956 and is been Accredited with ‘A++’ Grade by the National Accreditation and Assessment council.

Col. Dr. Jeppiaar, the Founder Chancellor of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology is a self-made man. Having served the society in various capacities as an Administrator in Government and Politics in early days, he dedicated the latter part of his life to the cause of education.

He has established Sathyabama Engineering College in the year 1988, with the aim of providing opportunity to deserving students to pursue engineering education, during a period in which engineering education was a far-fetched dream for many.

Dr. Jeppiaar is an educationalist par excellence who founded many popular Educational Institutions.

He was considered to be a great visionary leader by everyone in the field of engineering education and people depended on him for his guidance. He was known for his strategic initiatives and bold decisions,

which was meticulously followed by many of his contemporaries. His ideas and views were highly innovative and novel, which made him an inevitable force in the field for more than three decades.

What made him a distinctive leader was his humanitarian approach filled with empathy. Dr. Jeppiaar pursued his law degree and was a practicing advocate in the High Court of Madras. His thirst for education didn’t stop even at the age of 70 as he pursued his Doctoral degree from Anna University in the area of Water Resources Management which was highly commended.

Col. Dr. Jeppiaar believed that it is the responsibility of the Educational Institution and Teachers to groom students’ and develop them as qualified, eligible and employable graduates, irrespective of their capabilities when they join the Institution.

His famous quote, “ENTRY IS NOT IMPORTANT, EXIT IS IMPORTANT”, insisted this principle. He also wished that Educational Institutions should nurture values with wisdom.

He is simple man by nature, but endowed with the mind of a great visionary. Apart from academic endeavours, He has also explored into many fields of business and proved his business acumen and leadership.

Behind every initiative of his, was a noble cause. Through his ventures, he had created employment opportunities for multitude of people in the community. He has constructed a private harbor at Muttom, his birth place, a Coastal area of Kanyakumari District to provide employment opportunity to the people of that village, situated in the extreme Southern part of India.

Besides being an accomplished educationist he was also a great writer and was actively involved in the fields of literature and fine arts. During his early career, He has also served as Editor for a popular Tamil Weekly and Daily.

Col.Dr. Jeppiaar has been conferred with various awards and accolades as a token of respect for his contribution to the field of education and to the society at large.

He was commissioned as honorary Colonel by the Ministry of Defense in recognition of his services to the society.

Dr. Mariazeena Johnson is the Chancellor of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai,

one of the leading Universities in South India. She is a revolutionary educationist who has a great vision of redefining the education system.

Under her leadership, Sathyabama has made remarkable achievements in various fields.

Dr. Mariazeena Johnson, being a dynamic personality and born to the politician turned philanthropist Col. Dr.Jeppiaar, follows her father’s footsteps in embracing a holistic approach to education.

Dr. Johnson relentlessly works towards providing quality education and making the society a better one. Dr. Johnson is not only a leader but also a great intellectual in exploring the new avenues of research.

She was conferred with a doctorate from the University of Madras for her research on Recent Developments in Women Entrepreneurship that focused on varied challenges faced by women and their multitudinal roles and responsibilities in pursuing entrepreneurial ventures.

She has been instrumental in developing Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology into an Inclusive Institution. She has initiated Anbu Foundation under numerous Students are benefited with full scholarship every year. Dr. Mariazeena Johnson supports with the Skill Development Courses for the Government School Children under “My Saturday University” initiative, a fun loving educational programme.

Dr Johnson in association with world vision under “Support my school” project has adopted 21 Panchayat schools and 7 Villages for all round development by providing the basic needs and infrastructure facilities.

She has introduced Vocational courses free of cost for the school dropouts and rural youths for their upliftment.

Her contribution extends beyond boundaries reaching out to serve the students of a country affected by civil war. She has signed an MoU with Tawakkol Karman a Noble Laureate for Peace 2011, from Yemen to provide Full Scholarship to 15 Students of Tawakkol Karman International Foundation, Yemen every year.

“It is the duty of every citizen to give back to the society” are the words of Dr Johnson. “Blessed to Bleed” Campaign is her recent initiative which is aimed at making sanitary napkins Cheap and available to every women irrespective of their social and economic status.

Sanitary napkins are also provided to them at free of cost.

“My Happiness” is one of her initiatives launched by Honourable President of India during the WHO World Health Day Summit 2017 that aim to identify children with depression and other mental health problems and provide them with required interventions and support to come out of it.

Dr. Mariazeena Johnson provides an enabling environment for the advancement of women in her Organization and encourages the involvement of women in all areas of development.

Dr. Mariazeena Johnson has established a Women Empowerment Bureau which conducts several Programmes that aims at economic empowerment and social upliftment of underprivileged women.

Dr. Mariazeena Johnson supports several Foundations and Trusts and sponsors daily meals to various Orphanages. She is a patron of around 30 renowned foundations & trusts.

She is an ECO Warrior and a person with environmental concern who advocates Green India, Dr. Mariazeena Johnson has initiated Tree Plantation drive and has planted thousands of saplings in nearby community and continuing with the aim of planting at least 100 saplings every month.

She is not just satisfied with her mission of creating Engineers and Technocrats, but also interested in producing bureaucrats. She has established “JEPPIAAR IAS ACADEMY” for preparing Students for Civil Services and is conducting free Coaching for 1000 aspiring Students every year.

She was active in launching the first Successful Student Satellite ‘SATHYABAMASAT’ developed & designed by staff & students of the Sathyabama, launched by ISRO with other 19 satellites on 22ndJune, 2016. The Team SATHYABAMASAT, had an interaction with the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was highly appreciated for the achievement.

In recognition of her services she was selected as one among the Top 12 Women Transforming India by Niti Aayog and UN in India. She was honoured by our Honourable President for being one among the 100 impactful women of India as she worked single-mindedly for the cause of education.

She has also won several awards and accolades for her exemplary contribution to Education and societal development. She not only contributes to intellectual development by providing education opportunities but also to the economic and social development of the nation through various initiatives that provides employment and empowerment.

Vice Chancellor - Profile








Dr. T Sasipraba, completed her graduation in Computer Science and Engineering, started her academic career as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (Sathyabama Engineering College then ) in the year 1995.

She grew professionally in a span of 25 years, which is evident from the various designations administered by her.

As a Professor and Head of the Department of IT, from 1999-2010 she proved effective in teaching more than 11 batches of students, operated several research projects worth of 125 Lakhs as a Principal Investigator and 400 Lakhs as a Coordinator sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology ,

AICTE,MHRD,ISRO etcand affiliated the department to various professional bodies which fetched her the Best Teacher Awards for the outstanding performance .She also received Cognizant Technology solutions ‘Best Faculty Award’ in recognition for her excellence in Teaching and Research.

She got elevated as Dean (Publications and Conferences) in 2010 and took the initiative of organizing more than fifty International Conferences in all fields of Engineering, Technology,Sciences and Management in collaboration with several world class Universities and reputed organizations pan India.

As an outcome, she has edited several Conference Proceedings which were indexed by Scopus/WoS. She also took additional charges as Dean (Research and Development) since 2014 and ventured into need Specific Consultancy Services for laboratories affiliated with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) & Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

She also brought to the institution an added feather of Centre of Excellence for Energy Research bestowed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development under the FAST Scheme for which she continues to be the Coordinator.

Location Based services for Emergency Management, GIS based Web services for emergency management, Detection of Harmful Radiations in the Environment by Deploying Wireless Sensor Network, Location Based Services for Everyday essentials are some of her other promising projects with high scope for societal applications.

Her dedication and commitment earned her the status of Pro Vice Chancellor of the 32-year old pioneer technical institution since December 2016. All through her career, she has been distinguished by her unique working style and has been a key person who has contributed to the development of various new initiatives of the Institution.

She has been creating platforms for academicians and scientists to come together and share their ideas. She has been a reliable choice of the Management to represent the Institution in several international forums convened across the globe that gave wider visibility of our institution to students, researchers and teaching fraternity worldwide.

She has represented Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in NAFSA (National Association of Foreign Student Advisers) Annual conference and Expo, a networking event for all international educators who support international education, organized in USA, for three consecutive years from 2017-2019.

She also regularly participates in EAIE (European Association for International Education) Conference and Exhibition, organized in European Countries and EURIE, an International Higher Education Summit organized in Turkey.

Such visits to countries like USA, South Korea, China, Turkey, Indonesia, Middle East, European countries have been a threshold to signing of several Memorandum of Understandings with good foreign universities like the University of Lorraine, France; University of Alaska, USA; University of Florida, USA; Georgetown University, USA for nourishing Students Exchange, Staff Exchange , Collaborative research and joint Conferences.

She has been a member of FICCI Higher Education Delegation to South Korea during April,2019 and this visit has facilitated the development of strong and meaningful partnerships with some of South Korea’s leading research organizations, top educational institutions and Companies.

Some of the other key roles she is administering include Coordinator – National Board of Accreditation (NBA) since 2019 ,Coordinator - University Rankings , Ratings and Accreditations, Coordinator – MSME Business Incubator , Coordinator - Unnat Bharat Abiyan, MHRD and AICTE supportive Cell at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology ,Chief Superintendent- ISRO,NEET, IGCAR, BARC, TNPSC, TNUSRB, UPSC Recruitment Examinations , Serving as a member in various committees of the Institution ,Research Supervisor - School of Computing since 2006 ,Coordinator-International Relations activities of the University.

She has more than 100 publications to her credit that include Journal articles, Conference articles, book chapters, books and conference proceedings.

An inspiring academician and mentor of Research she is guiding 8 Scholars currently and produced 5 Doctorates .58 of her publications are indexed in Scopus and WoS which has earned more than 100 citations with the H index of 5. She is one of the inventors of three granted Patents.

Her research Contribution Includes, the development of integrated model for IoT and Cloud for detecting green house gas emissions, Incident mapping using DSS, Quality web service Recommendation system , Efficient web service discovery model and the Design of prediction Model for the impact of climate change.

She keeps herself updated and recently has completed a CMI Level 5 Certification of AICTEUKIERI Technical Leadership Development Programme, by AICTE- UKIERI, 2019. She is one of the members of the Internal Complaints Committee of BARC, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.

She is an Assessor of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) since 2019. To comprehend, she is an asset to wherever she is placed with extraordinary skills of handling resources in any critical scenario.
